▶ CHARACTER
NAME: Arwen, Undómiel, Evenstar
CANON: Lord of the Rings
CANON POINT: T.A. 3018, during the War of the Ring, after she learns of her son.
AGE: 2,777
BACKGROUND: Noble Maiden
PERSONALITY: "In the middle of the table, against the woven cloths upon the wall, there was a chair under a canopy, and there sat a lady fair to look upon, and so like was she in form of womanhood to Elrond that Frodo guessed that she was one of his close kindred. Young she was and yet not so. The braids of her dark hair were touched by no frost, her white arms and clear face were flawless and smooth, and the light of stars was in her bright eyes, grey as a cloudless night; yet queenly she looked, and thought and knowledge were in her glance, as of one who has known many things that the years bring."
Arwen is wise - she has spent her years reading, studying and listening to her elders. She is loved and fiercely protected by her family and what they know, they have passed onto her. That is no small gift given her relatives are Elrond, Galadriel and Celeborn! For years she followed in her grandmother's footsteps in particular before returning to Imladris in time to meet the love of her life, Estel (later known as Aragorn). Thus it is no wonder why the Lady of Rivendell (one of her sadder titles since she inherited it from her mother after she was attacked and spiritually broken by Orcs) is calm and steady even in the face of utter chaos. She knows when she must speak out and when she must stay quiet. Furthermore she knows how to school her emotions so that they do not get the better of her.
Like the rest of her family, she is also kind and fiercely protective of those she calls friends. She rode out to help Aragorn, Frodo and the rest of the Hobbits without any fear whatsoever for herself. She was prepared to face down the Nine if it meant she could get poor Frodo to safety. She also did what she could to heal him, but her father's healing was required as the Darkness was too strong for her to combat alone. However, despite her power being weaker than Elrond's, her intent - her desire to protect and heal - is just as strong.
It likely goes without saying, too, that she is woefully stubborn. Thankfully her wisdom and her love help balance out that trait and, usually, if she is sticking to her guns, even Elrond realizes that he has been overruled. Arwen is not loud or boisterous or difficult, but when it comes to matters of the heart, she wields emotional daggers against any who think to oppose her. She cannot be a soldier or a warrior - she cannot fight Orcs or Trolls or Nazgul - but she can support her friends, her love, and ensure that she is there to welcome them home. The only problem with her decision is that it will, eventually, rob Elrond of his daughter and her brothers of their sister. She does feel guilty for causing them grief (they have already suffered much of it), yet if she doesn't follow her heart, she will live in regret and that is far worse for an Elf. She would likely Fade from it.
Because of her decision, to remain behind instead of sailing to Valinor, Arwen's Light - her spirit - is beginning the process of Fading. As Sauron's Darkness spreads across the land, she becomes weaker and weaker. But still she clings to life - to hope. In Lunatia, she will be more prone to fatigue and melancholy for that reason and because she knows she is farther from Aragorn and her future with him than ever. Yet she will not release her hope; not for anything or anyone.
POWERS/ABILITIES: Elves are gifted in many aspects compared to the other races of Arda simply because they are/were the first created. Compared to the mortal races (Men, Dwarves, Hobbits etc.) they can travel great distances without tiring, move in ways that might seem impossible (especially in battle when they are avoiding blows), strike their opponents even if they are a sizable distance from them (their enhanced eyesight makes that easy), handle the elements without really noticing extreme heat or cold and heal rapidly from wounds (granted they are not grave). Elves are not immune to wounds that would kill a Man or any other race, truly, and they can die. Poison, too, can kill them. However they will not succumb to viruses or bacterial infections.
(Further note on their gifted senses - that does include all senses (sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste). Each one is heightened from what could be expected from a mortal Man, for example. Elves can see objects/people clearly when they are only mere dots to Men. The same applies to their other senses as well.)
Where their instincts and memory are concerned, Elves have a keen understanding of Light and Dark (i.e. good and bad). When a situation is not right or it makes them uncomfortable, they tend to either act or retreat from it until they can understand it better. Arwen, in particular, has inherited her grandmother's and father's Gift of Foresight. She has seen a possible future she might share with Aragorn and she has decided to risk everything in order to give it a chance. Should Aragorn fail and die, she will perish not long after him. As she is Half-Elven (or Peredhel/Peredhil) she has made the decision to embrace mortality instead of living forever without the one she loves; and thus she has tied her life, her existence, with Aragorn's. His life, in return, is tied with Sauron's and should the Dark Lord win the war, that inevitably spells Aragorn's doom.
She is also capable of spells; she can heal another (though her father will always have the stronger gift for it) and she can call upon the elements to aid her in a time of need (see: her incantation).
